The 2015 av福利社 International Travel Grant Program will enable historians from underrepresented countries to attend the av福利社 68th Annual Conference in Chicago

The Society of Architectural Historians (av福利社) announces the 2015 av福利社 International Travel Grant Program, which provides funding to scholars from countries that have traditionally been underrepresented at the av福利社 Annual Conference to attend the 2015 conference in Chicago. The aim of the new program is to bring international academics, museum professionals and heritage conservationists to the av福利社 conference and to help them build upon their international professional networks. The program is generously funded by a grant from the Getty Foundation. Applications for the 2015 grants are open online at .

av福利社 Executive Director Pauline Saliga said, “We at av福利社 are delighted to partner with the Getty Foundation on this fellowship program, which provides travel funds for academics from around the world who ordinarily would not be able to participate in the av福利社 Annual Conference. This program is beneficial both to the scholarly community that focuses on the history of the built environment and to the Society of Architectural Historians, which aspires to provide funding for a diverse group of individuals from communities around the world to attend the av福利社 Annual Conference.”

av福利社 will award between 12 and 15 fellowships to practicing historians of the built environment in late 2014 to fund their travel to the Chicago conference in April 2015. The award covers travel expenses to and from the 2015 conference, hotel accommodations, a per diem, conference registration and two years of membership in av福利社. Professionals working in a college, university, museum or conservation organization located in a country that has not traditionally been represented at the av福利社 Annual Conference are eligible to apply. Such areas include, but are not limited to, Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. av福利社 membership is not required to apply. Full eligibility requirements are listed online. The application deadline is September 1, 2014.

The takes place April 15-19, 2015, at the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza and includes paper sessions, the av福利社 Chicago Seminar, architecture tours and other events. The Society will celebrate its 75th anniversary during the conference, and we are grateful to the Getty Foundation for providing funding for these fellowships in our anniversary year.
