  Register for the av福利社 2018 Saint Paul Conference
Early registration is open for the av福利社 71st Annual International Conference in Saint Paul, Minnesota, April 18–22, 2018. Architectural and art historians, architects, museum professionals, and preservationists from around the world will meet at the Saint Paul RiverCentre to present new research on the history of the built environment and explore the architecture of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul region. Early registration ends February 20.

     
Rovang    Sarah Rovang Named 2017 H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellow
av福利社 has named Sarah Rovang as the 2017 H. Allen Brooks Travelling Fellow. The $50,000 fellowship award allows an emerging scholar to travel the world for one year to experience architecture and landscapes firsthand. Beginning in July 2018, Rovang will travel to sites in the United Kingdom, Europe, Scandinavia, South Africa, Japan and Chile to explore the public history of world industrial heritage.

KY    av福利社 Archipedia: Kentucky 100 Classic Buildings Completed
We are pleased to announce the completion of Kentucky’s 100 Classic Buildings on av福利社 Archipedia. This material, which also includes seven linked entries, was compiled by state coordinator Cristina Carbone with contributions from several scholars.

According to tradition, the Carmelite Order was founded in the twelfth century at the summit of Mount Carmel in northern Palestine. The order soon expanded to Europe and became one of the most revered eremitic organizations of the Middle Ages. In the early modern period, the order thrived in Spain, reformed by two of its most exalted mystics, SS. John of the Cross and Theresa of Avila.

I’d say my Spanish is horrible, but that would not be an accurate assessment. To say that my Spanish is horrible would suggest that I speak the language. The truth is, other than hola, gracias, and bueno, I do not speak a word more in Spanish. Yet, here I am in Madrid doing rather well communicating with the people around.

 

NEH Grants Awarded in Architectural History
In December, the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) announced the awarding of $12.8 million to support 253 humanities projects across the nation. Over the years, NEH has awarded av福利社 five matching grants to support development of more than 25 Buildings of the United States (BUS) volumes, and three matching grants to develop av福利社 Archipedia, the media-rich online edition of BUS.

: In partnership with GAHTC, av福利社 is offering Research-to-Teaching Grants and Field Seminar Travel Grants. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis.
