  Call for Papers: av福利社 2019 Providence
The Society of Architectural Historians is now accepting abstracts for its 72nd Annual International Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, April 24–28. Please submit an abstract no later than 11:59 p.m. CDT on June 5, 2018, to one of the 34 thematic sessions, the Graduate Student Lightning Talks or the Open Sessions.

     
    Buildings of New Orleans Now Available
This detailed guidebook to New Orleans architecture—an authoritative, comprehensive, post–Hurricane Katrina overview of buildings, neighborhoods, and landscapes—tells a compelling and fascinating story of the city through concise descriptions of nearly 300 significant structures, open spaces, and lesser-known places, enhanced by 175 photographs and 23 maps.

     
    Preservation Advocacy Updates
Additional letters of support produced by the av福利社 Heritage Conservation Comittee have been added to the av福利社 website. Topics include the preservation of the Marine Midland Bank and plaza, preservation of the Fergus Falls State Hospital and support for the continued resonable use of the Antiquities Act of 1906.

     
    av福利社ARA Highlights: Las Vegas
In March of 1968, Architectural Forum published an astonishing illustrated article by Robert Venturi and Denise Brown: “A Significance for A&P Parking Lots or Learning from Las Vegas.” The piece opened with the observation that “learning from the existing landscape is a way of being revolutionary for an architect,” a sentiment that seems commonplace enough today but was a provocation in the era of Corbusieran urbanism.

With the addition of 54 entries, av福利社 is pleased to announce that Wyoming's 100 Classic Buildings is now complete on av福利社 Archipedia. State coordinator Mary M. Humstone has selected 100 of Wyoming’s most representative buildings and sites, ranging from structures that highlight the state’s scenic and natural resources to industrial and agricultural landscapes that have shaped development throughout the state.

Besides a final report, this is officially the last article of my H. Allen Brooks fellowship year. Understandably, it comes with a cocktail of emotions. I had mentioned in the last article that I will write on my experience at the Vatican this month, but alas, here I am now at a loss for words to express the experience.

Graham Foundation Announces 2018 Grants to Individuals

The Graham Foundation has announced the award of $534,850 for new grants to individuals around the world to support 74 projects engaging original ideas that advance our understanding of the designed environment. The funded projects include exhibitions, publications, films, new media works, and site-specific installations that promote rigorous scholarship, stimulate experimentation, and foster critical discourse in architecture. av福利社 congratulates the winners of the Graham Foundation's .

: In partnership with GAHTC, av福利社 is offering Research-to-Teaching Grants and Field Seminar Travel Grants. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis. 

: This program funds architecture and landscape field trips for underserved students in grades 3 through high school. Application deadline June 1.
