Brian Goldstein Awarded NEH Grant for Monograph on Architect J. Max Bond Jr.

av福利社 member Brian Goldstein was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) for his book project, The Life and Work of Architect J. Max Bond, Jr. (1935–2009). The grant will support his research and writing of the book, which is about the life and work of architect J. Max Bond Jr. (1935–2009), a prominent African American architect who made contributions to civil rights and modernism.
Goldstein is an associate professor in the Art History department at Swarthmore College and has been a member of av福利社 since 2015. He was the recipient of the 2015 av福利社/Mellon Author Award for his book, The Roots of Urban Renaissance: Gentrification and the Struggle Over Harlem (Harvard University Press, 2017). He co-chaired the session "Designing while Black" at the av福利社 2023 Annual International Conference and is co-chairing the session "Nuclear Modernism and the Modern Southwest" at the av福利社 2024 conference in Albuquerque.
